You know what that means ladies and gents...time to vote like you're a member of the Academy. Go here and get started, and feel free to use this as a place to do your FYC campaigns and chat about who and what may or may not get nominated.
-Happy voting!
Enjoy ACCA!
ReplyDeleteAll I ask, all that I beg the community to do is exercise a little autonomy in their choices. Don't just look at a selection and think, "Oh, he/she was nominated that year and I like him/her." Actually think about who you believe was truly your favorite, which may or may not always gel with Oscar's choices, and that's fine.
ReplyDeleteBut with all the complaining on our Under the Circuit columns about excellent unnominated performances and films, matching up 80-100% with the Academy's choices - like the 2002 ACCA - smacks of laziness. Don't blow a fun opportunity to show us the idiosyncratic online community that I know you are.
And for heaven's sake, please don't commit blatant category fraud! Just because Ethan Hawke is nominated in Best Supporting Actor for Training Day doesn't mean he "supported" a damn bit of that film...
Uh, there's a problem with the voting. You can only choose one choice and there's no write in. Plus, the supporting performances from Memento are missing!
ReplyDeleteAlso, if I see I Am Sam get nominated for anything, I will cry for humanity.
ReplyDeleteRobert- Hawke was nominated that way, so like it or not, that candidacy has to be there.
ReplyDeletekoook- That's being fixed.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like I Am Sam just fine. It's not great, but it's far from bad...

ReplyDeleteNow, let's just sit tight until the voting is fixed, and let the readers do as they please. Let them influence each other, not us influencing them.
ReplyDeleteI apologize, Joey. Didn't know I was out of line.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about it. Just let it be, no apologies. This is for the readers, not us. You have prime real estate for category fraud in articles. Let this be pure.
ReplyDeleteI have my complaints. No Joe Pantoliano for Supporting Actor, No Laura Harring for Supporting Actress, no mention of Manic, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe list will never be perfect. It's just the nature of the beast. The write in category has worked before, so make liberal use of it.
ReplyDeleteI fixed the issue with the poll...vote away.
ReplyDeleteFYC:
ReplyDeleteBest Picture - Shrek
Best Director - Chistopher Nolan, Memento
Best Actor - Guy Pearce, Memento
Best Actress - Naomi Watts, Mullholland Drive
Best Supporting Actress - Carrie-Anne Moss, Memento
Best Supporting Actor - Ian McKellan, The Fellowship of the Ring
I'm not big on LOTR, but a nice FYC for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe issue still persists from my end.
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested to know what makes Memento the best directed film of the year, but Shrek the best overall film of the year...
ReplyDeleteIt needs time to update...wait a few, I'm still playing with it.
ReplyDelete@Robert: Shrek is a sentimental choice for me. I've loved it ever since it came out. Memento was meticulously directed and sculpted by Nolan, where as Shrek was lucky to be as great as it was.
ReplyDeleteIt's done now, so it should reflect on the site shortly.
ReplyDeleteAlright, let's show a little love for Hedwig and the Angry Inch...
ReplyDeleteFYC-
Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Adapted Screenplay
Like Hamer, I encourage everyone who appreciated Ethan Hawke's performance in Training Day to nominate him for lead.
ReplyDeleteI hate that when I come to the write-in vote, I forget every movie and performance that I liked.
Ben- Go for it.
ReplyDeleteJim- It happens.
ReplyDeleteJoey, I appreciate all the work you do that goes into these ACCA nominations. But, every year there are always performances or films that people feel are glaring errors that you haven't included on the votings lists. I understand that perfection will never be achieved, and you're only one person and shouldn't be expected to achieve perfection, but what I suggest for the next year is that before you open up the voting you should post the lists you intend to use on the blog. You could leave it up for a couple days, that way people can view your lists and make suggestions of people or films that they feel should be added in the comments section before you actually open the voting. It's a much more democratic system, and I think most of us would appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, just a suggestion.
-Robbie
It's something to consider. Ultimately it's not my call, but especially for the older years, I can see that being a good compromise.
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind, not all suggestions would go on the poll, but if there's an overwhelming omissions, then I have no doubt we'd take note.
It's a good suggestion either way.
Another ACCA. Can't wait for the nominations to come out to see how the history of our community's award unravels.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I don't vote, but I do sit by and anxiously await the tally.
