Matt Reeves to write and direct a new version of They Live!

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Let Me In writer-director Matt Reeves will write and direct a feature for Universal based on the John Carpenter creeper They Live. That 1988 film was based on the Ray Nelson short story "Eight O'clock in the Morning" and hinged on one man's sudden discovery that aliens walk among us.

Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are producing the project for Strike Entertainment. Shep Gordon of Les Mougins, Kristel Laiblin of Strike and Carpenter will serve as executive producers. Universal exec Scott Bernstein is overseeing for the studio.

Carpenter's film, which starred pro wrestler Roddy Piper and Keith David, became notorious for the five-minute-plus, only semi-fake fight scene between the stars. In that version, Piper finds a pair of sunglasses that allow him to see the aliens underneath human skins.

The CAA-repped Reeves directed Cloverfield, co-wrote and directed The Pallbearer and co-wrote The Yards. He was a creator, writer, director and executive producer of the WB series Felicity. He also has a thriller script set up at Bad Robot called The Invisible Woman that he plans to direct.

-Joey's Two Cents: I like the films that Reeves has made so far, so I'm on board for this too...thoughts?
