Looks like DiCaprio and Scorsese are once again teaming up...

Deadline has the exclusive:

In what shapes up as a reteam for the writer, director and star of the Oscar-winning The Departed, Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to star in The Gambler, a Paramount remake of the 1974 drama.

James Caan starred in the original as an academic whose gambling addiction begins to get the best of him.

William Monahan is writing the script as a potential directing vehicle for Martin Scorsese.

DiCaprio recently completed the Clint Eastwood-directed J. Edgar, and he’s playing Jay Gatsby in Baz Luhrmann’s remake of The Great Gatsby for Warner Bros, based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic. DiCaprio then takes a villainous turn in the Quentin Tarantino-directed Django Unchained for The Weinstein Company.

Tony Scott to remake The Wild Bunch?

Deadline has the exclusive:

[Tony] Scott is in talks with Warner Bros to direct a reboot of the 1969 Sam Peckinpah-directed The Wild Bunch. This film becomes one of three or so that Scott is most eager to direct as his follow-up to the Denzel Washington-Chris Pine action film Unstoppable.

Scott's next assignment will be Hell's Angels, though its timing will depend on whether he gets the actor he wants to play gang leader Sonny Barger. I'm told that he wants Jeff Bridges. They've not met face to face yet, because Bridges is right now touring his self-titled musical album that he recorded after he won the Oscar playing Bad Blake in Crazy Heart. Once Bridges gets back to film work, he's book to star with Ryan Reynolds in Universal's R.I.P.D. and the Warner Bros/Legendary Pictures The Seventh Son. If Scott has his heart set on Bridges and the actor says yes, Hell's Angels won't get underway until next spring or later. Fox 2000's Hell's Angels is set around the Laughlin riots of 2001 when the Angels were caught up in a war with rival gang The Mongols. The drama revolves around a friendship that develops between Barger and a young drifter mechanic with a gift for fixing motorcycles. The script is in by Scott Frank, who did numerous rewrites of an earlier draft by Stephen Gaghan.

Diablo Cody is doing some script work on the remake of The Evil Dead!

Deadline has the story:

Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell are readying to remake their cult horror hit The Evil Dead, tapping Fede Alvarez to write and direct the redo and putting the project on the fast track via Raimi, Tapert and Nathan Kahane's Ghost House Pictures. Alvarez, who came to the producers' attention via his short film Panic Attack, penned the script with Rodo Sayagues, and scribe Diablo Cody is doing revisions on the latest draft. In the original 1981 film that starred Campbell, five friends at a remote cabin in the woods unknowingly summon demons from an ancient civilization, causing all sorts of bloody and gory problems. The movie spawned a pair of sequels: Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. Raimi, Tapert and Campbell, the original film's producers, will produce the new incarnation, and Ghost House partners Kahane and Joe Drake will executive produce. Nicole Brown and J.R. Young will oversee the project for Ghost House. Lionsgate will handle international sales on the film. Two things come to mind: The in-camera special effects were the best parts of the original, so it will be interesting to see how modern VFX will be utilized. Also, the news that Juno scribe Cody is on the case is interesting, though she does have a horror film under her belt having penned the Megan Fox-starrer Jennifer's Body, which didn't do much at the box office. Stay tuned on both fronts. Alvarez is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content. Cody is repped by WME and Mason Novick.

-Joey's Two Cents: I like Cody's scripts a great deal, so this increases my interest in the project exponentially...thoughts?

Daniel Craig is impressed with David Fincher...

...especially how he's handled the violence in their upcoming remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Collider has the story:

Daniel Craig hasn’t been seen in theaters since 2008′s Defiance but he’ll have four films coming to us this year. In a few weeks we’ll see him in Cowboys & Aliens, he’s got the horror flick Dream House in September, he did motion capture for Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and he wraps up the year with David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. He can expect plenty of questions about Bond 23 and we can expect that he’ll answer almost none of them. However, he is willing to talk Dragon Tattoo in an awkwardly written quasi-interview with Esquire.

Hit the jump to read what Craig had to say about the adult-nature of the film and how Fincher is handling the violence in the story. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens December 21st.

Spike Lee might now be directing the potential remake of Oldboy...

...as per this from Collider:

Much like its protagonist Oh Daesu, the remake of Chan-wook Park’s Oldboy is very hard to kill (provided the opponent is a thug in a long corridor). Last November, we reported that Mandate Pictures was still interested in the remake and loved the script by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) turned in. The studio was looking at Steven Spielberg, Matthew Vaughn, and Danny Boyle to take the director’s chair, but now a new name has gone on the list. Twitch reports that Spike Lee is in talks to direct the film. While I think an American remake of Oldboy is a bad idea, it could still be a hit and if it gives Lee the boost he needs to make more personal films, then so be it.

Clint Eastwood wants Leonardo DiCaprio to star with Beyonce in A Star is Born?

Apparently so, according to Deadline:

I hear Clint Eastwood is using his time with Leonardo DiCaprio on the J Edgar Hoover biopic to discuss the director's new Warner Bros project A Star Is Born. Clint is hoping to team Leo with Beyoncé, who's already set for the musical. Clint is producing through Malpaso as well as helming the script by Will Fetters. Producers are Billy Gerber and Basil Iwanyk and Jon Peters (who made the infamous version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson). The project has been at WB for several years, and there'd been talk of pairing Beyoncé and Will Smith. But casting Leo as the male lead would make for a much more interesting movie. There have been a trio of A Star Is Born versions made since the 1930s, the last one coming in 1976 with Kristofferson playing the boozer and Streisand the wannabe. Or even #4 if you consider What Price Hollywood (1932) made by George Cukor, which is often forgotten.

-Joey's Two Cents: I'm not exactly excited by this project, but DiCaprio would be a very interesting choice...thoughts?

Are you ready for a War Games reboot?

Of course you aren't, but Deadline says it's coming anyway:

MGM will reboot the 1983 thriller War Games, and the studio has set Seth Gordon to develop the film to direct. Gordon, who made his breakthrough with the gaming documentary The King of Kong, most recently directed the New Line comedy Horrible Bosses, with Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Jamie Foxx. The reconstituted MGM has been going to town with remakes -- landing Jose Padilha to direct Robocop and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to script Carrie -- but the John Badham-directed War Games is one that seems particularly reboot-able.

Ben Affleck might have his 4th directorial endeavor coming together...

...and it's his first remake. Here's what Deadline has to say:

Harlan Coben, one of the biggest selling mystery writers in America, is finally in line to have one of his books made into a major Hollywood film. And all he had to do was make a detour through France.

Warner Bros and Universal Pictures have optioned rights to turn Coben’s thriller Tell No One. Ben Affleck is attached to direct and the script will be written by Chris Terrio. Terrio scripted Argo, the film Affleck is preparing to direct next for Warner Bros. Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will be the producers. The studios will co-develop the picture, with Warner Bros releasing domestically and Universal Pictures International launching it overseas. The deal involves Luc Besson’s Europacorp and that’s where the French connection comes in. The new project is basically a remake of the French film adaptation of Coben’s book, which was directed by Guillaume Canet.

Speaking of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...here's the International Poster!

Yes, the marketing is slowly coming out now, though it's still up for debate as to how much is viral. I like the look of the poster very much, completely feeling like a "David Fincher" movie, though I recognize that the domestic ones will not be quite the same. It's a slightly adult image, so you can see the poster (and a second one) after the jump...

Behold the Green Band Trailer for the remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Is the "leak" of the Red Band 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Trailer just viral marketing?

As you all know, I wasn't going to post the trailer, sticking to my guns of not supporting piracy. However, a few reports (like this one here) have pegged it as a controlled leak of sorts, considering that the video hasn't been taken down. Now, I still normally would just wait the extra 3 days and simply post the official Green Band trailer for you all, but at the off chance this version is different than the one coming this week, I decided to bite my tongue and post it. Especially in case some of you haven't seen it yet, I figured it wasn't fair to be a stubborn ass about it. So, here you go:

Don't look for the Red Band 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Trailer here just yet...

...as I'm not posting the bootleg one like some other sites are. The official trailer will be out in a matter of days (and some of those unlucky enough to have been swindled into seeing 'The Hangover Part II' have seen the trailer as well), so just sit tight. Soon enough, we'll be seeing a nice crisp look at David Fincher's vision of these books, so stay tuned!
-If you've seen the trailer already though, feel free to sound off on what you thought...or just hold your tongue until the real one is out.

Jamie Vanderbilt will write Ridley Scott's take on last year's Red Riding Trilogy!

Via Collider:

Back in 2009, when Columbia acquired the rights to the gritty British crime drama series Red Riding, director Ridley Scott was thought to be teaming up with writer Steven Zaillian (American Gangster) once again. Though Zaillian is still producing along with Scott, it seems Columbia will go with the hot hand for a screenwriter. Heat Vision reports that James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) will write the adaptation of the popular British TV movie series.

Red Riding is based on four novels by author David Peace. The series, and upcoming adaptation, follows a large cast of characters related to serial killings and police corruption that span the years from 1974 to 1983. After his work on Zodiac, Vanderbilt should feel right at home in this genre. (And for those of you playing 6 Degrees of Separation, Andrew Garfield, who plays Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man, was featured in the original Red Riding series. Perhaps we’ll see him again, working off of another Vanderbilt script?)

With as varied a history of screenwriting projects as Vanderbilt has, I wonder if there’s any project he can’t handle. He’s tackled pure action movies in The Rundown and The Losers. He’s shown himself capable of gritty procedurals with Basic, Zodiac and now, Red Riding. Clearly he can handle a bit of the fantastic as he was tapped to write The Amazing Spider-Man and has already been hired for the sequel, as well as polishing up the script for the Total Recall remake.

-Joey's Two Cents: I don't know that the project can turn out better than the original, but here's hoping...thoughts?

Today's Trailers: Straw Dogs and Fright Night

Ryan Gosling will make his directorial debut with a remake of The Idolmaker?

Apparently so, according to Deadline:

Ryan Gosling is set to star and direct a remake of the 1980 movie The Idolmaker for MGM. It would be the Oscar-nominated actor's directorial debut. Idolmaker, directed by Taylor Hackford, starred Ray Sharkey in a story about the life of rock promoter/producer Bob Marcucci, who discovered Frankie Avalon and Fabian. Gosling -- in Cannes this week for the premiere of the competition film Drive, co-starring Carey Mulligan and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn -- has been shifting his focus from indies to more mainstream fare of late. He's co-starring alongside Steve Carell in Warner Bros' Crazy, Stupid, Love, which opens July 29, and he is starring in Logan's Run and Gangster Squad, Warner Bros' big Will Beall-scripted crime drama that also will star Sean Penn and Josh Brolin.

-Joey's Two Cents: I wonder if this is part of the reason that he's been taking part in larger scale movies of late. Either way, I'm very interested to see what he's got as a filmmaker...thoughts?

Martin Scorsese could be revisiting Taxi Driver with Lars von Trier...

...according to Screen Daily:

In a long rumoured collaboration, it has now been officially confirmed that Martin Scorsese is to join forces with Danish maverick Lars Von Trier on a follow-up to The Five Obstructions (2003), Von Trier’s collaboration with Jorgen Leth.

The co-production between Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions and von Trier’s Zentropa Real ApS, is looking to start production next year.

TrustNordisk will handle sales.

In The Five Obstructions, von Trier challenged Leth to remake his short film The Perfect Human (1967) five times, while providing him with a different set of “obstructions” for each new version. The process forced Leth to rethink the history and characters in his original film.

Von Trier will apply this same method to Scorsese with a new set of obstructions.

Additional details will not be disclosed. However, it is believed that Taxi Driver will be the film that von Trier asks Scorsese to revisit.
