Breaking Bad will reach its end soon...

"Breaking Bad" is getting its renewal -- for a final season.

AMC has picked up 16 episodes to conclude series. That will bring the award-winning show to a close sometime either next year or in 2013 -- depending on how the network and AMC and Sony decide to divvy up the final hours, whether they split them into two more shortened seasons or one ("Bad" usually runs 13 episodes per season).

"It's a funny irony -- I'd hate to know the date of my own last day on earth, but I'm delighted to know what Walter White's will be (episodically speaking)," Vince Gilligan said. "This is a great gift to me and to my wonderful writers. It's knowledge which will allow us to properly build our story to a satisfying conclusion." Gilligan then added:

"Now, if we don't manage to pull that off, we've got no one to blame but ourselves. "Breaking Bad" has been a dream job these past four years. Working with the best cast and crew in television has no doubt spoiled me for future projects. I'm lucky to get to work with them on sixteen more episodes, and I will always be grateful to both AMC and Sony Television, who from the beginning, believed in our show and supported me creatively and professionally. We have been able to take risks with 'Breaking Bad' which would not have been possible on other networks."

The deal comes after Sony shopped around the "Breaking Bad" to other networks during a tough negotiation period.

The 'Entourage' movie is happening...

...according to Deadline:

More assurances that HBO's long-running comedy seriesEntourage will spill onto the big screen with a movie, following the end of its eight-season run this fall. "If I had to finance it myself, I would do it," executive producer Mark Wahlberg said during the TCA session dedicated to Entourage's final season. "I've been telling Doug, The Hangover is to me very much like Entourage, and look at all the recent success of R-rated movies." Doug would be Entourage creator/executive producer Doug Ellin. "We’re going to do a movie," he said. "We’re going to do it, the questing is when and how quickly. Hopefully we'll come down with an idea and make it happen."

Aaron Sorkin is developing another project for HBO...

...and this time it's a miniseries, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

Aaron Sorkin and John Krasinski are developing a miniseries for HBO based on Life at the Marmont, a book by the hotel’s co-owner Raymond R. Sarlot and Fred Basten.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Sorkin (The Social Network) will write the mini and executive produce with Krasinski (The Office). The Chateau Marmont’s current owner, Andre Balazs, and his daughter, Alessandra, will also executive produce.

Krasinski, who has been the project’s champion, is expected to play a role in the mini, which will feature interwoven stories of the hotel’s guests over several generations. Since the 1930s, the apartment complex, which later became a hotel, has been at the center of Hollywood, drawing film and TV actors, literary greats and rock stars.

In addition to the untitled Marmont mini, Sorkin has his cable news project More as This Story Develops, starring Jeff Daniels, Olivia Munn and Sam Waterston, at HBO.

AMC is developing a reality show with Kevin Smith?

So it seems, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

AMC, the network that has found success with the comic book-based The Walking Dead, is developing a reality project set in the comic book world with Kevin Smith.

Smith, an avid comic fan and writer who continued his big-screen features Jay and Silent Bob and Clerks in comic form, would executive produce the project, which will take place in and revolve around the two guys who run his New Jersey comic book store The Secret Stash, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

A casting call for the project posted on Facebook noted that Smith was not looking for actors, but instead comic book fans -- men and women ages 21-35 -- who live in the tristate area.

AMC announced plans to expand into unscripted programming in November and in April revealed series orders for two docu-series: Inside the DHS, from Dirty Jobs producer Craig Piligian and following Department of Homeland Security employees including Janet Napolitano; and Pitch, from Undercover Boss duo Eli Holzman & Stephen Lambert and revolving around ad agencies pitching clients and prepping ad campaigns.

Emily Mortimer could star in Aaron Sorkin's HBO Pilot!

Deadline has the story:

Emily Mortimer is in negotiations for the female lead in Aaron Sorkin's HBO pilot. Tentatively titled More As This Story Develops, the project centers on cable news anchor Will McCallister (Jeff Daniels), who has his own show, as well as the show's female executive producer, MacKenzie (Mortimer), for whom producing the news is what she does best and everything else is tied for last place. Out of a pool of actresses considered for the role, it came down to Mortimer and Marisa Tomei. After flirting with the project and coming close to committing to it, Tomei ultimately decided not to do television at this time, and HBO quickly started negotiations with Mortimer. In addition to Daniels, Mortimer will also join Olivia Munn and Alison Pill, who are finalizing their deals for the project. Greg Mottola is directing the pilot, which is being executive produced by Sorkin, Scott Rudin and Alan Poul. Mortimer, repped by ICM and Brillstein, will next be seen in Martin Scorsese’s 3D film Hugo Cabret. She also co-starred in the hot Sundance entry Our Idiot Brother, which was picked up by The Weinstein Co.

The Oscars will still be on ABC until at least 2020...

...according to this in Variety:

ABC has renewed its Oscarcast pact with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for another six years, through the 2020 telecast.

ABC's previous pact had been set to expire in 2014. Alphabet pays an estimated $50 million a year for the kudocast rights.

"This contract ensures that the Oscar show will be an ABC tradition for 45 consecutive years," said AMPAS prexy Tom Sherak. "ABC is absolutely the very best place for the Academy Awards, a television event that is beloved and watched by millions of movie lovers all over the world."
