The sequel to 'The Amazing Spider-Man' already has a release date...

...so perhaps this story from Entertainment Weekly suggests that Spidey's film next year is going to be a quality endeavor:

Though audiences still have to wait until next July 3 for The Amazing Spider-Man to hit theaters, Sony is clearly very bullish on its reboot of the web-slinging franchise — so much so that they’ve already greenlit a sequel and staked out a release date of May 2, 2014 for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. “It speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment,” says a studio source. No further information is available on the sequel at this point, though it seems safe to assume that the new Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, will be back wearing the suit again. But hey, it’s never too early for fanboys to start lobbying for their favorite villains, so have at it: Who would you like to see Spider-Man square off against in the franchise’s next chapter?

Here's a bunch of images from The Amazing Spider-Man!

The newest issue of Entertainment Weekly has a whole load of images from Marc Webb's upcoming take on Spidey, and it's overall an article worth reading (though it does shamelessly claim to exclusively confirm the villain, despite everyone knowing already for months). For those without the magazine, here are those images after the jump. Enjoy!

Check out some set photos from The Amazing Spider-Man!

Via Coming Soon:

Some of the most revealing photos yet from the New York set of The Amazing Spider-Man have been snapped, courtesy of college student J. Anthony Hall, who uploaded the following images to his Twitter account.

As you can see, the first shot represents our first good look at Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The green sock around his right arm is so that his hand can either be removed in post-production or replaced with the special effect onset of his scaly alter-ego.

My spider (sequel) senses are tingling!

Excuse the awful title (I'm in a punny mood today, if you haven't noticed), but in all seriousness...there's definitely going to be a sequel to 'The Amazing Spider-Man', according to The Hollywood Reporter:

Columbia isn’t even done shooting The Amazing Spider-Man, its Spider-Man reboot, but it has already begun working on a sequel.

James Vanderbilt, who penned Amazing, will be back behind the keyboard for the continuation of the new movie franchise.

Vanderbilt had a meeting with the Spider-Man filmmakers and studio execs yesterday outlining his take, getting a thumbs up, and will now begin writing.

Vanderbilt has become part of the Spider-Man family at Columbia, which has enjoyed great success with a tightknit group of creative people. Vanderbilt first worked on Spider-Man 4 for the studio, back when Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire were planning to continue the series. At the time, he was chosen for his character-driven approach to the story rather than a focus on special effects and worked on an outline for a trio of films.

When the project was reconfigured into a reboot, Vanderbilt was brought over to pen the new, character-focused version. (Alvin Sargent, also a member of the Columbia’s Spider-Man family, worked on the new script.)

Amazing, which is scheduled to wrap its Los Angeles portion by mid-April, stars Andrew Garfield as the titular hero and is being directed by Marc Webb. Columbia has scheduled a July 3, 2012 release for the 3D movie.
